2007 Pembrokeshire Porpoise Survey

Shearwater Safaris – Wildlife Adventure

1 hr River Trip – Milford Haven Waterway, the Heart of the Park

Milford Haven is one of the finest natural harbours in the world. Over 18 miles long and tidal to Haverfordwest. An ancient river valley formed 2 million years ago, it is protected from the west by the Dale peninsular and offers leisurely cruising in most weathers.

We take you on a journey through time from the stone age through the bronze age tracing the development of the waterway to the iron age and the era of the Romans, Celts and Vikings.

Learn about King Hubba and his Vikings, the foundation of ‘Little England’ with the Norman conquest in 1093, the historical landing of Henry Tudor in 1485 and the development of sea trading; ship building; smuggling & piracy; castles & fortifications. Also the use of the port from the second world war to today as a gateway to Ireland, a major oil terminal and fishing port.

2 hr Historic River Trip

As a contrast you can explore the inland waterway with its quiet inlets and waterside pubs and restaurants, most with pontoon landings, stopping if you wish to do so.
